Two-time novelist, poet and short fiction writer, Jonathan Bennett joins me in my bookish office above Bloor Street in Toronto to talk about the importance of setting in both fiction and life. Jonathan Bennett is the author of the 2009 novel, Entitlement, republished last year in enhanced trade paperback by ECW Press.
Raised in Sydney, Australia, Bennett claims Entitlement as his first truly Canadian book (it is set in both Toronto and the Muskoka cottage country north of that city). We talk about that book and about his latest work, the poetry collection Civil and Civic, an homage (in part) to the civic-minded poetry of Canada in the late 1960's and 1970's.
